Our client Bianca Garcia contacted us to create a modern look inspired by the famous groupies of 70’s. The look chosen for her accentuates her figure while maintaining her aesthetic in mind. The look combines styles from the seventies with those from the 2010’s. Her hair and makeup are inspired by the most recognizable groupie, Pamela des Barres. The final look results in what we interpret as the modern-day groupie.

The following work is inspired by a unique character in Mundo Cruel called La Carlos. In Luis Negrón’s book readers meet La Carlos, a character in the story El Vampiro de Moca. La Carlos is described as a man between the ages of 23-33 who inhabits the gay scene in Santurce at the beginnings of the twenty-first century. This character is mostly referred to with female pronouns in the book. His personality is very expressive, brave, daring and strong-willed. We chose to recreate a scene where the narrator of the story finds La Carlos high and eating pizza with a friend of his in the couch of his studio. We interpreted La Carlos as a character who dresses very expressively and provocatively, since his personality reflects on his style. We also chose to style him with “feminine” clothing and bold makeup since people mostly refer to him with feminine pronouns. From the reading, we can infer that his character belongs to the low or middle class, which is why we chose clothing and makeup that resonates with the style frequently used by those classes.
